Since graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 2000, where I discovered myself as an artist, DJ/musician, and entrepreneur, I have been on a mission to make my mark in the world. Two years out of college I made the extremely sudden decision to move to New York City where I had very little lined up in terms of work. I found myself in Harlem at 113th and Lex staying with a DJ friend of mine from Japan for the first week or so, but soon found myself in Williamsburg for another short term stint bouncing from one shady job to the next working for free designing a website for an accomplished photographer (how we all get started). Fast forward to the present where I have found myself living and working down the street at my studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn, a neighborhood thats off the beaten path, made up of folks from the projects, artists and families.
I was introduced to the world of entertainment on the web while helping start up Blastro.com in Austin (I also designed Grupo Fantasma's first website, one of the best local bands) and found myself creating online marketing campaigns and websites while working for agencies my first three to four years in New York. Highlights are being the Interactive AD on HBO's The Wire online campaign, HBO's Entourage online campaign and freelancing at RGA and Razorfish, two of the more interesting agencies. Working for Sotheby's and the organic beauty company Carol's Daughter was also a great experience. I really enjoy freelancing on a per project basis. You always learn something new and avoid burn out doing the same kind of work over and over again. In January of 2009 myself and two ex agency friends started a company, Iconoclash Media. We focus on building and creating iPhone applications and websites and how to integrate the two. Being an entreprenuer is never boring, though its compltely unpredictable. Look out for our yearly party during SXSW Interative.
The other side of me is in love with making art, being exposed to art that makes you think, whether its through listening to music, writing music, watching films, writing screenplays or photography. I love traveling the world and also enjoy mentoring young people. If there is one thing my Buddhist practice has tought me, what goes around comes around. When you give freely (without expecting anything in return) the most amazing things begin to happen to you.
